verse 1

I want to welcome all to my area, the continent of Africa,
Where people die of AIDS, starvation and malaria.
where there is hardly no power and water supply
and sometimes even we wonder how we survive.
Our governments are corrupt and full of old selfish pigs
who are only concerned with themselves and their families.
Making a living and getting rich at the expense of others,
people die 'cos of thier greed but they just can't be bothered.
And we are portrayed to the world with selected images,
like poverty stricken women and children in villages.
And disasters like tribal wars and oil spillages,
that wipe out generations in towns and villages.
People are desperate because life is hard,
how many of you all really know what its like to starve?
So we walk around all sedated and depressed -
'cos we are fighting wars orchestrated by the west.
With no standard of living the reality is raw,
we manage what we are given but it is hard and we are poor.
And even though I roam like a mobile phone
you know I'll still go back there 'cos thats my home, come on.

Chorus
Let me tell yuo about the place I am from and the life that we live in Africa
All the beutiful women you will find in Africa
the origin is still in my blood and no matter what I will always be African
African, oh Africa -yeah

verse 2
Things didn't always use to be like this,
we were blessed with harmony and a life of bliss.
We were rich with our culture, a mixture of all sorts
living together before the scriptures were altererd.
We had more than one creator but one that all could relate to,
all on the equator and one with mother nature.
We still eat with our hands and the food is fresh,
and yes the air is hot but you will be cooled with sweat.
The weed is cheap and strong you can't take it for long
straight from the soil and pure so we use it to cure.
And our african women are a sight to behold
with strength and character they are wives to betroth.
We respect our women, our African queens,
who are angels on earth disguised as human beings.
'cos when situations look so intense and cursed,
they still raise families 'cos their strength endures.
Plus they are blessed with curves - they could seduce for a living.
when they dance they sway and they move to the rhythym.
oh! they use what they are given and it should be forbidden (why?)
cos they make a man say damn and lose what is in him, come on

Chorus

verse3
The invaders left with our identity stolen,
we have been seperated, confused and killed for so long.
So many of us aint even proud of us,
and our brethrens abroad look down on us.
But I aint ashamed of my history - infact I am proud,
'cos through the depths of that place came this young black child.
I still remember running naked in the outback wild,
but not all memories of my home can bring back my smile.
Like the great Fela said yes we suffer and we smile,
We hope and we pray things will only last a while.
We work towards a better time and a better place,
where all this pain and suffereing we dont face.
Where we all aint as skinny as Marilyn Manson,
where we all have a shot at a better chance and,
where we are all beautiful and we are all handsome,
where poverty don't take our joy for ransome,
where we all walk hand in hand advancing,
no fighting just peace, love and romancing,
where there is music in the air and we are all dancing,
but until then...I'll remain and African son.

chorus x 2
